Chokecherry, Schubert - Bareroot Bundle
Description
Also known as Purpleleaf chokecherry, Schubert is a highly ornamental multi-stemmed shrub or small tree that is excellent for the shrub border, screen, as a specimen and is also great for wildlife plantings. Leaves start out green in the spring, but then change to a rich dark purple by summer. Long racemes of creamy white flowers turn into large clusters of astringent dark red cherries that are good when cooked into sauces, jams, jellies and preserves. Very popular with wildlife and an important fall food for many species. Attractive to butterflies and birds.
Chokecherry is very easy to grow and adaptable to a wide range of soils. It also is drought tolerant. Grow the tree in full sun, please. Can grow 20 or more feet tall, but also can be pruned to a more bushy form. Hardy zones 2-8.
